“He who limps is still walking.”
– Stanislaw Lec
Started walking before sunrise in the dark again - no problem since we were in town. The crowds are certainly thickening even at this early hour. Walked by the most amazing Panderia / bakery - it looked like they were doing artisan breads. The loaves were gorgeous. Should have taken a picture as this was the best bakery I’ve been in. I was pretty hungry since I only had a can of Coke and broccoli last night that that a fellow peregrina shared with me from her dinner. So I walked in and would loved to have bought a loaf of beautiful artisan bread but instead got a Napolitano - which is my favorite croissant - you know the one with the chocolate inside. Made from scratch it was the best one I’ve ever had in my life. Really good chocolate. Wow, what a way to start the day 😎 (every day I wish)
I usually start out in the morning walking alone but today leaving Sarria it’s a different story. I’m outside of town but I currently have 16 people in front of me and three behind.
I noticed about half are carrying day packs so they must be shipping their luggage ahead
Observation: today I am generally being passed. Response: I don’t care
Pretty hard for me to put on headphones and listen to tunes when I am trying to soak all this in step-by-step
Once again I spent a few minutes doing web searches as I walked
Tent camping on the Camino can be done but requires a different of logistics. Rogue camping is difficult to do and generally you cannot or should not camp on private property. There are campgrounds scattered and some of the Albergues do allow tent camping if they have a green piece of grass to set your tent up on. This happens to be Sylvia from Poland whom I met and walked with for a couple of hours a few days back. She has budgeted five euros a day to get by on ! She seems very happy and is very upbeat and is living the life she wants to live right now. When she camps under a canopy, the heavy evening dew doesn’t fall on her tent
Otoño / Fall is well under way now
A gourd-juss & a-‘maizing’ fall scene it seems to me 😎
Cloudy descent into Portomarin
Church opens at seven. Now that I’ve had a wonderful dinner of ‘pulpo / octopus and croquetas I’ll walk across the street and look inside
Ultreia!
Here is a little word from Santiago’s vocabulary. Exchanged between pilgrims, printed on papers, carved into wood or rocks, you can see / hear it pretty much everywhere along the Way. By exclaiming; “Ultreia!”, pilgrim actually say “Let’s keep going! Let’s go some more, let’s go beyond!”
