Day 5 Puente de Reina

Day 5 | Sept 13 684km. After a pleasant day in Zizur Mayor I’m off to Puente la Reina (queen’s bridge). As you can see it from the map there will be one large climb in the middle of the day and one large down the hill which I am dreading as downhill tends to do it on my knees and calves in spite of relying on the walking sticks to decelerate each step on the downhill.. (easier said than done when all of the stones on the downhill are nearly perfectly spherical granite baseballs - see image!). Goal Numero Uno today is to walk for an hour and find the early (daily) camino medicine of Café con leche & a chocolate croissant (Napolitana) -mostly accomplished

“Still round the corner there may wait a new road or a secret gate, and though I oft have passed them by, a day will come at last when I shall take the hidden paths that run west of the moon, east of the sun”
-Frodo

El Perdon

El Perdon at last. What a view. The first big camino ‘milestone’ and second must have ‘selfie’ stop

Slippery when wet (bicicletas a la derecha)

Slippery when wet (bicicletas a la derecha). I cannot imagine this during a downpour.

‘Food for the soul and body’. Good use of underutilized church property I think - it was a very cool metaphor to see these men enjoying themselves
