Day 15 To Rabe de las Calzadas

Day 15 Sept 23 Destination = Rabe de las Calzadas / 490 km to go.

La Meseta begins today! Pretty much an amazing day the further I got away from Burgos. The highlight being where I ended up the beautiful little town of Rabe de las Calzadas that I would love to return to in three years and spend a day in with my Esposa. That being said today it appeared that all of those that I observed walking or walking as fast as they could were missing all of the little details of the monuments along the way like the one I captured below. They all seemed to be on some sort of ‘power walk’

Once again it was a rather emotional day filled with the camaraderie of shared stories among my ‘peloton’ before moving on. Especially my new friendship with Andres from Valencia as well as the most hospitable owner of this hostel in Rabe. The day ended with a wonderful dinner al fresco. One by one new friends came outside on this chilly night to ask if they could join; Jonathan, Peter, and Elizabeth. It was a wonderful evening. I’ll treasure it.

Today was a good day!

- Beverly Sills

“Cuando el viaje llegue a su fin saldra la estella de la tarde y las armonias del crepusculos se abiran ante el portico del rey “ I’m glad I did not miss this at this early juncture of the long walk. Spoke to me, just sayin. “When the trip comes to an end, the evening star will come out and the harmonies of twilight will open before the king's portico”

On the way out of Burgos I was going to walk past Jesus, but I decided to try to understand what He was doing there…..everyone passing Him by.
I’m glad I walked over to say ‘hello’.
The inscription:
“Cuando el viaje llegue a su fin saldra la estella de la tarde y las armonias del crepusculos se abiran ante el portico del rey “

I’m glad I did not miss this at this early juncture of the long walk.

Spoke to me, just sayin…

“When the trip comes to an end, the evening star will come out and the harmonies of twilight will open before the king's portico”

-this is worthy of some future thought…..(nobody stopped to view this)

Clearly an art town with a clear message on what’s important

Clearly an art town with a clear message on what’s important to them. This town pretty much wanted to be remembered by this wall art as you moved on out of town….

Nope, not halfway yet - 3 more days 76 km

Nope, not halfway yet - 3 more days and 76 km. A daunting number, however. Seems like a long way to go. I sighed, and starting walking again. Oofdah!

Tear in my eye when I rounded the last corner in town - I just sat on the side of the road and took it all in for a while. Took my pictures. Watched a women grilling bushels of red peppers on an outside wood fired grill with her german shepherd dog watching and protecting. And this fabulous mural. Best I’ve seen yet. I was deeply moved. I hoped that one day I’d walk by here, again. I want to believe I’ll walk by it one more time….
