Day 18 To Fonsagrada

21 September 2023 Day 18 destination Fonsagrada 24km 16 miles Galicia bound!

Another wow start to our day

I can’t get over all of the different ‘ light ‘ throughout the different periods of the day, and the different days of the Camino I never paid attention to different qualities of light before. Light comes in different wavelengths. How out of ‘tune’ my ‘receiver’ can be at different times to all of these frequencies.

Surprisingly long but gentle up hill climb to the wind turbines

Wind energy provides the majority of rural northern Spain, electricity

(Out of sequence)I just found this photo from day one when we got a wee bit off the beaten track - really didn’t matter no harm done we walked west anyway. We call this Camino alternate route “ Nora”. The point is if you head West it counts!

Below: a familiar ‘new style’ marker with countdown distances

So, like I said, we went up an unexpected, huge hill, not a mountain, long climb up to the wind turbines came back down the other side, starving, hoping to find a bar café at the bottom of the hill. It turned out. It was a failed business and is closed but at least we saw this sign (166.098 km to go) We are now officially in Galicia. I love this region. ! Holger is thrilled and intends for us to all eat pulpo tonight (octopus)

Galicia gets the world record for best dahlias.. This is the most beautiful one I’ve seen all Camino. They grow in floribunda huge bushes over here.

Highlight of my day: ad hoc emergency lunch at the bottom of the hill, closed café - aye carumba! But no problem-we both rummaged in our backpacks, found enough to make a very tasty launch, gluten free bread, dried plums, and sardines
