Day 22 to San Romao

25 September 2023 Day 22 destination San Romao 20 km

One goal for today: Get there and enjoy the relative quietness of the Camino before we merge with the Francis update goal accomplished it was a great 20 km day, 32243 steps of wonderful conversation with fellow Peregrino’s, including Julia from Sweden

Leaving Lugo crossing the ancient Roman bridge with some recent updates and beautiful morning light, we got a late start due to a fabulous breakfast bar Holger knew about; croissants, coffee, and granola with all the fresh fruit from Spain, including fresh Spanish kiwi!

There are a handful of nods to the Roman conquest and occupation, but only a few, likely for obvious reasons

After 10 km, this little tiny oasis with a picnic table and available ‘aseos’ ( restrooms) came at a good juncture. Holger and I were at a supermercado this morning right after they opened and loaded up with over a kilo of supplies; bread sardines, cheese, cured meat, mandarin orange, atun (tuna) chocolate and water, we could not have eaten out at the restaurant as well as we did right here Juliana (Sweden) was willing to walk with us and joined up and we had a great time for about 40 minutes

As you probably know from following my writing, I like crossroads like these, but unlike Jay Edgar Hoover, I am not afraid to always take right turns 👻. Standard Camino marker and guidance is the tower lower right

BELOW: Today’s winner of the Rose of the day on Camino Galicia

We all took selfies here it was such a beautiful inspired corner of the Camino

Capella de San Ramao- don’t know the history maybe the altar image Locked as always dominate I snapped through the keyhole speaks for itself. The cementario was right there as well, and Spanish gravestones indicate total age years lived -different than America

The kilometers fly by when you are walking with new friends

My closest friend in San Romoa today, . He is helping me to stay ‘in the flow’ and understand what ‘the flow’ really is all about..… thank you brother Herr Holger!

Our wine infused hypothesis is that the Wi-Fi is coming from this one. It comes and goes. What on earth would we do on Camino Primitivo without the Wi-Fi 😵‍💫 Oof dah

Highlight of the day: Learning about Swedish culture.

What’s surprised me most: today’s light filtered on forest trail floor. Simple but memorable. Kms flew by

Julia supplied the quote of the day I will attempt to translate as best as as possible:

Bryt upp, bryt upp! Den nya dagen gryr. Oändligt är vảrt stora äventyr”

~Karin Boye (1900-1941)

“Break free break free. A new day is arising. Endless is our big adventure”
