Day 7 To Los Arcos

Day 7 September 15 | 642km to go | Destination: Los Arcos
Travel guide ( and fellow walker) Herr Lars indicates today is a 21 km day. But first cafe con leche, croissant, and a banana. A steady climb of 21 km and a rather warm day without very much sombra (shade) I walked with friends for 90 minutes and then alone the rest of the day

“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach of us more than we can ever learn from books”
- John Lubbock

I will refrain from food pictures as I find them rather cliché however yesterday I did find the holy grail of a folding knife so I can cut my cheese, fruit, baguette , sausage, and carrots ! along the Camino.

Highlight was musician playing hauntingly beautiful praise song on guitar in this acoustically perfect building - I will try to figure out how to upload the video

Highlight was this random seemingly out of place road side rest stop with a musician playing hauntingly beautiful praise song on his guitar in this acoustically perfect building (it appeared to be a washing or bathing well)- I will try to figure out how to upload the video. A very cool moment….

Buena Vista on the road to Irache

Buena Vista on the road to Irache. Moments like these I wished I could freeze in time in my mind. I should have just sat down and taken it in for 15 minutes instead of jumping back on the trail so quickly. Whats up with that compulsive mindset to keep moving… (no one else stopped either)

Bodegas Irache - The famous fuente del vino where we fill up our water bottles 😎 with wine of course

Bodegas Irache - The famous fuente del vino (water to wine?!) where we fill up our water bottles 😎 with wine of course. To say it was ‘Nouveau’ vino is an understatement. Prolly better for cooking..but the precio was right - libre !

Typical Albergue accommodation for a 13 €. Capacity eight (pandemic restrictions) there were three of us

Typical Albergue accommodation for 13 €. Capacity eight (pandemic restrictions) there were three of us - bottom bunks only. Due to restrictions I found that most dormitories were very, very clean. Comfortable and basic

The road to forever

Friend, Herr Lars, on “The road to forever” What a great iconic moment. My poor command of words or idioms aleman (german) did not prevent us from having many lengthy conversations and learning what it was like for him to grow up in the former GDR. A very contemplative pilgrim on his 4th Camino. Lars conscientiously journaled everyday after walking… before his afternoon siesta! He is somehow finding margin in his life to do these frequent caminos with a full time managerial job and family. I love it - living deliberately
